New Site

Once again I’ve moved to a new site! Right now it looks like WordPress (because it is) but soon I’ll change over my old layout. So it will look like my old site except if my old site was WordPress (because it wasn’t).

Yeah, anyway. On with the show.

Moving the blog

If it isn’t already obvious, I am moving the site’s blog over to a phpBB forum. I’m also planning on using the forum for other information about some projects I’m working on, but all of that is pretty WIP at the moment. Expect to see more stuff here soon!

Digital Lifestyle, Upgraded!

After adding a lot of Search Engine Optimization features to the forums and wiki, I’ve really gotten into the swing of setting things up to be more search engine friendly. So, if you haven’t noticed the new URLs around here then that’s why. It’s also been a great deterrant against the few spammers that have caught on to the site and been posting random bullshit, but it’s stuff like that why I made the comments here only displayed after approval. Anyway, ThinkingWithPortals and have fallen to the SEO beast, and my other sites will soon follow suit. Be on the lookout, PageRank!

Speaking of comments, I am thinking about adding a comment system to the actual content pages here for whatever reason. I’ve severely updated the comment code so it is pretty portable now and easily added to other pages that I’d want. Be on the lookout for that.

I also added an auto-generated RSS feed to site that pulls information from the news posts, in case you seriously care enough about this site to want to read it in your favorite feed reader or your iPod or something. Personally I think stuff like that is superfluous, but to each his own I guess.

I’m also going to be doing a pretty big update to all of the actual pages here. Yeah sure, Supreme Commander was really fun to mod but the actual community didn’t go anywhere and it seemed almost too open ended. Plus, having to make 300,000 models to replace units or create a new race isn’t exactly my idea of fun.

Server Mail Problems

It looks like the server is temporarily having some mail problems, and no emails are getting sent out. We’re working to get this resolved as quickly as we can.

In the meantime, if you are using any of the sites hosted here that send out emails (specifically ThinkingWithPortals and MyPHPsig), you’ll have to wait a bit to get your various welcome letters and PM notifications.

Check this spot for when we’re back up and operational.

EDIT, 2:48am
Everything should be back to normal now. Any mails that didn’t get sent out previously we’ve resent, but any that haven’t been delivered in the past day or so are lost forever. Sorry for the problems, should be the last of their kind for a while we hope!

Server Move (Again)

No need for warning since it seemed to go off without a hitch, but the network sites just went through another transplant. We are now on a machine with about twice the power and memory, and a huge content drive. Which really doesn’t matter for much, except that ThinkingWithPortals seems to have exploded. I can’t wait to see what will happen over there when the new SDK is released.

In the midst of setting up that new site, plus working on a multitude of other projects of mine, I think I am going to redesign the site here. Nothing mind boggling visually, but considering that I ported the site over from ASP about 2 years ago, I think it could use some loving considering I have learned a mighty fuckload of PHP between then and now.

Also, I have finally gotten off of my ass and made a PayPal donation link. I’m going to wait to post it up, but if you really feel like you should hand out some of your cash, message me or leave a comment and I’ll be happy to take you for all you’re worth. I mean, accept your gracious donations.

Learning Computer

“My CPU is a neural-net processor; a learning computer.”

Man, Terminator 2 really is such a good movie. The deleted scene in the mechanic shop where they reset the T-800’s read-only switch really blows my mind. It makes sense all of the hoops they had to go through to open it up, and it really was a nice glance to how the Terminators were built and their CPUs were protected. But don’t you think it is a bit dangerous that you can just yank the damned thing out? I figure there would be some sort of Off switch or something.

So anyway, been working on site security and an automated defense software. Basically it comes down to, the site will know when you’ve been naughty and kick you out when you deserve it! It also is really helping to streamline a lot of the various backends for and MyPHPsig. Which also, by the way, has started to really shape itself up nicely with the recent additions. It will be moving to a whole new system here in the coming weeks, but hopefully the transition will be seamless.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Upcoming Downtime

The network sites will be going down at some point during the next few days and will be down for as long as 24 hours. We are switching to a new IP address and the DNS servers across the world will need to propagate. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Stats, Team Fortress, Update

I have a phone again, for everyone who may have been trying to get in contact with me. This also means that my emergency email address is activated again.

I’ve recently implimented a new form of stat-tracking to MyPHPsig, that now logs what operating system, browser, and even the ISP that viewers use. As of this post there are just under 200 known ISPs. Go check out the stats page to see what other sort of fun stuff is there.

I’ve been playing a TON of TFC – Dustbowl recently, and with the hype around Fortress Forever and the soon release of TF2, I think I am going to start an Attack/Defend map. I have a few settings in mind, not sure which one I am going to go with yet. More info to come later, post comments and let me know what to think!
